Language, although often used by a particular custom, is not bound to it and a person can learn another language without it's associated custom, although some custom will be absorbed and is helpful.

Custom is more ingrained in a pattern of thinking which goes far beyond language, and here I refer to the common concept of verbal and written languages.

In a careful and logical conversation it is relatively easy to adjust language but not so custom. A few example may follow.

The use of words that are both descriptive and divisive. Jew and Nigger are the two most common terms used lately (2018) as being seen as divisive in use although they have valid meaning in terms of heritage. Man and woman more recently are seen as divisive, whilst their heritage is also being challenged.

So although a person may choose there words carefully it will slow down any conversation if someone has to pay attention to removing cultural inference from their talk, to such a degree that a conversation may well take forever.

It is expected therefore that a person's personality and their customary way of speaking will dominate in a conversation and it is the degree of understanding, acceptance and ability to adjust and replace words that are essential in any agreement that has long lasting understanding.

As custom changes so do the meanings of archaic texts yet it is unpractical to rewrite history.
