Pre civilisation, homo sapiens lived day to day, hour to hour ans second to second there was little concern for the long term consequences of their actions and in fact there were little consequences as far as the outer environment was effected.
Come the production of food, the foresight that animals and plants could be managed for future consumption came a chang in both the way we as homo spaiens thought and acted but also to the environment at large.
Children, the younger more so, do think and work in the moment, but competition and especially schooling drives children to think of the future and how to acumulate security through acquiring assets, more often than not in the form of money.
This change brings a long term view of actions and although along with it come long term changes to the environment this is not the crux of this topic. It is the short term issues.
Many people, especially politicians and campaigners argue and act in what they consider to be the long term interests they have been eductaed to focus on and in doing so give up even more awareness of where they are.
